Requirements & Compatibility

  • Version: AnythingLLM Desktop v1.11.0+
  • Linux Limitations: Screen/application capture, area capture, and display capture are unsupported.

Key Bindings

  • Default Open Shortcut: CMD + / (macOS) | CTRL + / (Windows/Linux)

Configuration Paths

  • Inside Assistant: 3-dot menu (top-right) -> Desktop Assistant Settings
  • Inside Main UI: Settings -> Desktop Assistant

Thread Management

Configure Open thread behavior to either:

  • Open a new thread (Default)
  • Open the previous thread

Note: All assistant chats are stored in the Assistant Chat workspace within the main AnythingLLM UI.

Operational Capabilities

Screen & Application Capture (macOS & Windows Only)

  • Targeted Application Capture: Select active application suggestion in chat window or click + to choose from open applications. (Captures screenshot of target application).
  • Area & Display Capture: Click + -> Select Area Capture (region select) or choose a specific display (full screen).

Chat Features & Syntax

  • File Ingestion: Drag and drop documents directly into the chat window.
  • Image Input: Attach images to the chat input.
  • Agent Execution: Use @agent prefix to trigger agent skills and MCPs.
  • Commands: Execute custom Slash Commands.
  • Context Control: Define custom system prompts and embed workspace documents directly.
