Risks & Warnings
- Increased embedder usage/costs (especially with third-party APIs).
- Potential corruption of local database or local vector database.
Feature Capabilities by Platform
| Source Type | Docker | Desktop |
|---|---|---|
| Website links | Yes | Yes |
| Data Connectors (Confluence, GitHub, YouTube, etc.) | Yes | Yes |
| Manually uploaded local files | No | Yes |
Implementation & Usage
1. Enable the Feature
Activate the feature from the Feature Preview Management page.
2. Watch a Document
- Embed the target file into a workspace.
- Click the eye icon next to the embedded file. Note: Directories cannot be watched. Files uploaded prior to v1.5.9 must be re-uploaded to enable watching.
3. Sync Behavior & Intervals
- Background Worker: The application (Desktop) or container (Docker) must remain running. If closed, background syncing pauses.
- Auto-Unwatch: Deleting a document from the system or moving/deleting a watched local file from its original path automatically disables watching.
- Websites & Connectors Sync Interval: Checked hourly for staleness. Stale files (not refreshed in the last 7 days) are re-fetched.
- Local Files Sync Interval (Desktop Only): Checked for changes every 10 minutes.
Troubleshooting
- Disable Feature: Turn off the toggle in the feature preview dashboard to stop all background workers.
- File “Not Found” State: If a local file is moved, its sync status changes to “Not Found” and it becomes unwatched. Embedded contents remain as they were at the last successful sync. To fix, re-upload and re-embed the file from its new location.
