Requirements & Compatibility
- Availability: AnythingLLM Desktop v1.15.0+ (macOS and Windows). Linux is not supported.
- Licensing: Free daily tier available. Unlimited usage requires AnythingLLM Pro.
- OS Permissions (macOS): Requires Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions.
Configuration & Management
Navigate to Settings -> Magic Beacon to configure the following options:

| Enable Magic Beacon | Toggle the feature ON or OFF. |
| Quick Actions | Customize the actions available for editable and static text selections. |
| Ignored Apps | Manage the list of applications where Magic Beacon is disabled. |
Customizing Quick Actions
Go to Settings -> Magic Beacon -> Customize Quick Actions:
- Edit Actions: For editable fields (inputs, code editors). Responses can replace selected text directly.
- Static Actions: For non-editable text (PDFs, web pages). Responses can be copied to the clipboard.
- Each action requires a Label and a Prompt (which appends to the highlighted text).
Excluding Applications
- To temporarily disable: Click the widget options menu and select βIgnore this appβ.
- To manage/restore: Go to Settings -> Magic Beacon -> Ignored Apps and remove the application from the list.
Session History
View history at Settings -> Magic Beacon -> Past Beacon Sessions. Each entry logs:
- Input text and prompt
- AI-generated output
- Generated files, sources, and execution mode (Chat vs. Agent)
Troubleshooting macOS Permissions
If the beacon dot does not appear after highlighting text on macOS:
- Quit AnythingLLM.
- Open macOS System Settings -> Privacy & Security.
- Add AnythingLLM to both Input Monitoring and Accessibility.
- Restart AnythingLLM.
- Navigate to Settings -> Magic Beacon, toggle the feature OFF, then toggle it back ON.
